Falls' Simone Lee Plays Big Role in Youth National Team's Success

Lee is competing in Tijuana, Mexico with the U.S. Girls Youth Volleyball team, and rolling over the competition to this point.

For the past two weeks the nation has been absorbed in coverage of the 30th Olympic games in London. However, Falls residents may someday see one of their own on the television screen competing for a gold medal.

volleyball standout Simone Lee has been playing a big role on the United State Youth Girls Volleyball team this summer. The team is fresh off a sweep Wednesday of Mexico at the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship in Tijuana, Mexico.

Lee scored 14 points in the win. She recorded those 14 by logging nine kills, one block, and four aces. The United States improved to 3-0 in pool play, and earned a bye into the semifinals of the international tournament. They’ll play the winner from Thursday at 7 p.m. Friday.

“Simone is enjoying the tournament, playing well, and having fun with the other girls,” said her mother Karen Lee.

Simone Lee earned a spot in June after competing against 24 athletes from around the country. Lee also competed played on the Girls’ Youth High Performance team that took third place in the championships played in Iowa in June.

Lee, a 6-foot, 1-inch outside hitter, has verbally committed to play volleyball at Penn State University after graduating in 2014, according to Milwaukee Sting volleyball – her club team.

Lee helped lead the Indians to the team’s eighth conference championship in nine years. However, the team came up short in the WIAA Regional round against Mukwonago. According to WisSports.net, Lee recorded 33 aces and had a hit percentage of .351.
