U.S. Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner announced today that 21 high school students from the 5th Congressional District were nominated to join a U.S. service academy – three students are from Menomonee Falls.
Of the 21 nominees, three students from Brookfield were chosen as principal nominees. If the principal nominee meets the academic, physical, and medical standards set by the academy, they are assured an offer of appointment to the academy.
The three Falls students are alternate nominees. If the principal nominee does not qualify or chooses not to attend, the three alternates would compete for the vacancy. Alternates are also part of a pool of applicants from which the academies will choose their incoming class.
The three nominees from Falls are:
- Mikayla Robertson has been nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Mikayla, the daughter of Troy and Felicia Robertson, is a senior at Menomonee Falls High School.
- Erin Schneider has been nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Erin, the daughter of Terry Schneider and Mary Higgins, is a senior at Menomonee Falls High School.
- Carter Welsh has been nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Carter, the son of Patrick and Geralyn Welsh, is a senior at Menomonee Falls High School.
“Each year, I am impressed with the caliber of individuals who apply to my office,” Sensenbrenner said. “These young men and women have already established a strong record of community service, excellence in academics and sports, and leadership among their peers. I congratulate each of these students on their nomination and wish them the best of luck on all their future endeavors.”
