Village Will Not Purchase North Hills to Accommodate New Kohl’s HQ

Published reports say a myriad of issues between the two parties caused the village to step away from negotiations with the club.

According to the latest reports, Menomonee Falls is no longer seeking to purchase North Hills Country Club to accommodate a new headquarters for Kohl’s Corp.

According to a report on JSOnline, Don Schroeder, president of North Hills, sent an e-mail to members indicating the village was no longer interested in purchasing the golf course.

Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald told JSOnline  that the two parties struggled over a myriad of issues that caused the village to step away from negotiations.

In April, a North Hills member, who wished to not be identified, told Patch that members were informed that there was a "lucrative" deal in the works with the village that would generate a significant amount of revenue to build a new club and erase existing debts.

Fitzgerald on Tuesday told a crowd of business leaders with the Menomonee Falls Chamber of Commerce that the village has been working daily to keep the retail giant’s headquarters here.

“Our largest employer is Kohl’s Corporation. I can tell you today that we are working hard on a daily basis to make sure that Kohl’s can stay here and grow and prosper,” Fitzgerald said. “They believe in the next two decades they could be a corporation of 10,000 employees.”

Menomonee Falls, with a population of roughly 35,000 people, is home to 45,000 jobs. Kohl’s is the village’s largest employer.

The village has met in closed session five times now to negotiate with Kohl’s representatives regarding lands within Tax Incremental District No. 4, which includes the 220-acre Woodland Prime office park.
