Civic Center Parking Expansion Takes Next Step

If all goes to plan, the parking lot expansion at Village Hall could begin some time this summer.

Village leaders are another step closer to starting a project that would expand the parking lot at Village Hall.

The Plan Commission last week combined a former residential plat of land with the village’s Civic Center, which is another step toward expanding the parking lot for the multi-purpose center. The site currently has a vacant home on it.

In 2012, $280,000 was allotted for the construction of the parking lot expansion project in the Capital Budget. However, the final cost of the expansion has not been compiled as plans are not yet completed and bids have not been sent out.

In 1992, the land on the site was transferred to the Metcalfe family trust, and in 2006 the site was rezoned to accommodate a 45-unit, two-building condominium development. However, that project fell through and the village made its offer to purchase.

The Architectural Control Board would review the aesthetics of the proposed parking lot May 28, and final approvals could come from the Village Board on June 3.
