Man Charged For Carrying Ruger Without Permit

A Milwaukee man faces a maximum sentence of nine months in jail, and a $10,000 for carrying a gun without a concealed carry permit.

A Milwaukee man is facing possible jail time after he was caught illegally armed during a traffic stop.

Kristian Byrd, 22, is charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Byrd faces a maximum sentence of nine months in jail, and a $10,000 fine if prosecuted to the fullest extent.

A Menomonee Falls police officer stopped a vehicle driven by a female along Highway 41/45 on Dec. 11. The woman was driving 83 miles per hour on the highway, and Byrd was the passenger.

During the stop, the officer smelled burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, and the female driver stated she had not smoked. Byrd told the officer he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day, and produced a paper cup with ice cubes, ashes, and green leafy material in on the bottom.

The officer did not find any contraband, and issued the driver a citation. Byrd had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, and the officer found a Ruger revolver in his waistband. Byrd did not possess a permit for the revolver.Β
