Reports: Could Kohl's Leave Menomonee Falls?

CEO says it's his duty to Kohl's shareholders to explore all options for new HQ, which could include moving out of state.

Menononee Falls-based Corp. could potentially move its headquarters out of the village as CEO Kevin Mansell said Thursday that they aren't ruling out any possibilities for a new headquarters, according to published reports.

Both the Business Journal and JSOnline reported Mansell's comments, which came after a Kohl's annual shareholder meeting. Kohl's is currently headquartered at N56W17000 Ridgewood Dr.

“We've had a good relationship with the village,” Mansell said, according to a JSOnline report. Mansell added that he had an obligation to employees and shareholders to consider all options.

“People expect, and it’s required, that we provide facilities and benefits that are much better than we’ve had in the past,” Mansell said in the Business Journal report.

According to JSOnline, Mansell said Kohl's may be looking at a downtown Milwaukee location or potentially moving out of state. He noted that a downtown location would be more expensive than a suburban location.

The village has met in closed session several times regarding Tax Incremental District #4 which includes the Woodland Prime office park. It is rumored that Kohl's was looking at that site to build a new facility. Negotiations recently between the village and representatives of North Hills Country Club. The village was looking to purchase the club to likely provide more acreage for Kohl's.

Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald chose not to comment regarding Mansell's reponses in Thursday's interview.
