Golf Outing To Benefit Falls Man in Need of Kidney Transplant

Fourth Annual charity outing to raise funds for Doug Sueflow set for Saturday June 11 at Silver Spring Country Club. Registration ends June 7.

A 52 year-old Menomonee Falls man who needs a kidney transplant will be the beneficiary of the annual Charity Golf Outing.

Doug Sueflow, a sheet metal worker at the , has been trying to cope with a number of serious health issues stemming from kidney problems and diabetes.

“Right now, I’m on the list to have a kidney transplant,” Sueflow said.  “I had surgery on my ankle for a complication from diabetes called Charcot Foot. They reconstructed my ankle and they had to cut it open and re-build it.  This year, I’ve been out of work for 7-1/2 months.  Over the last four to five years, I’ve missed about two to three months of work every year because of the foot problems.”

Charcot Foot is a very serious condition that causes weakening of the bones in the foot. It occurs in people who have significant nerve damage (neuropathy) which is caused by diabetes.  The bones are weakened enough to fracture and with continued walking, the foot eventually changes shape. The joints collapse and the foot takes on an abnormal shape. Charcot Foot can lead to severe deformity, disability and even amputation.

If a kidney donor can be found, Sueflow will have his kidney transplant operation at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

“I’m also waiting for a brace for my ankle because my ankle needs support,” Sueflow said. “I’ll be walking with a brace for the rest of my life. We don’t know if I’ll get permanent disability. We’re waiting for a decision from Social Security.”

Sueflow’s daughter, Nicole, has already raised some money with a bowling benefit to help pay for many of Doug’s ongoing medical bills. When she approached the Kruegers to see if they would like to make a contribution, owner Dave Krueger said he’d like to make Sueflow the beneficiary of this year’s golf outing. Doug and his family appreciated the gesture.

“It’s pretty nice,” Sueflow said. “I’ve known the Kruegers pretty much all of my life.  My mom and dad started bowling there and I went bowling there, got to meet them and it’s pretty neat.”

The charity golf event will be held Saturday, June 11 at the and will start at 9 a.m.  So far, more than 100 golfers are committed.  The cost to play in the event is $85 which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch, dinner and door prizes. The registration deadline is Tuesday June 7.

“This will be our fourth annual golf outing which is held on the second Saturday of June each year,” said Tiffany Stark, who is coordinating the event. “Every year we pick a different beneficiary, either a family or an organization. Last year, we helped a little boy named Braden who was born with spinal muscular atrophy. People enjoy golfing. The event means enjoyment for our customers and it will help benefit a family or an organization. It’s a chance for us to give something back to the community.”
