How To Handle That First Day of Kindergarten

We asked Patch parents to give a few pointers on making that first day of kindergarten go smoothly, and without a copious amount of tissues.

The at least 12 years children are in school are bookmarked by two bittersweet moments. Those of course, are the first day of kindergarten and high school graduation.

Parents around Menomonee Falls are about to send their youngsters off for their first day of kindergarten as the school year fast approaches. There are three broad suggestions to help prepare your child for that big first day, according to FamilyEducation.com

  • Discuss Kindergarten
  • Try time away from you
  • Set up play dates
However, we asked Patch parents how they prepare for the first day on the Menomonee Falls Patch Facebook page. The spectrum of advice was colorful, to say the least.

Sometimes the moment of separation can be a bit overwhelming as your child crosses over into the halls of their respective schools. Patch user Karen Reed suggested simply keeping things short at sweet.

"Don't dally around. When the bell rings leave. I didn't know not to and went into (the) classroom which made everything worse," Reed said.

Although you don't want to let the moment drag on too long, you'll also want to make sure it's a milestone you can remember for years to come.

"Take lots of pictures, give them a big kiss, and send them the right direction!" said Patch user Heather Leaders.

And perhaps after a long summer with the kids, who were probably bored after two days, it's time to enjoy a little peace and quiet. That's what Angie Rozinski plans to do.

"Enjoy the time off!" she said.
