Lime Kiln Park Trail Closed For Repairs

One of the most popular Falls trails is getting a needed facelift and should reopen this weekend.

Falls dog walkers, recreational walkers, bikers, and any other mobile residents will need to take a detour for the next few days.

The trail - arguably the most popular walking route in the village - will be closed for repairs for the next three days. The Department of Public Works is in the midst of a $75,000 repaving project for the entire path.

If you've traveled the path lately, you're well aware of the dismal shape it was in. Director of Engineering Tom Hoffman said workers are also taming the hill by the kilns a bit. Rather than drop off steeply, the path will have a more gradual incline around that corner.

Engineers are also repaving the portion of the path the crosses the bridge and joins Park Boulevard. Hoffman said the path should be open again by the weekend.

Carl, Is there any way for you to find out when this was last paved? In the heat of the battle over paving the bugline I'd like to know how quickly we needed to pay another $45,000 for this. Thanks.

Forget the path, "restoring" the kilns has been a village stimulus project I'd like to see investigated.

I'll try to find that out tomorrow for you Jann

Just look at the spending @ the Falls Island a few evergreens and landscape bark $ 45 k ... That's right $ 45 K ......take a look ..

I am happy they are doing upgrades. It is one spot in the Falls that is still nice and actually utilized. Our downtown is empty, we are building things we don't need, there is virtually nothing keeping our village alive.

Except subsidizing $$$ to LANDLORDS and coffee shops and other bussiness that fail two or 3 times . How long will a E-cigarette shop be open and how much does the community need a bussiness like this . How some of these restaurants stay open is a wonder . To the naysayers .....yes I have been to most of them and maybe other then Moys most were substandard. The consumer decides who makes it and who fails and throwing $$$ just prolongs inevitable. Name me one Downtown thats competitive in Metro Milw......sorry but it is what it is.

Why Eddie, I think even Ward and June would be in agreement with you.

Any update on this project? My wife and I tried taking our dog on this trail last night and the “sidewalk closed” signs were still up.
Carl Engelking August 31, 2012 at 05:07 PM
Yeah I think someone forgot to take them down. Lots of people have been using the trail the past several days.

Eddie - needed a correction Tom Hoffman had told me $45,000 but Arlyn Johnson just updated the board and it was $75,000 to pave the path.
