The Menomonee Falls Taxpayer Association (MFTP) has endorsed
Bonnie Lemmer in the upcoming April 2nd election for Village Trustee
– Seat 5 currently held by Jeff Steliga. Steliga is seeking reelection.

Besides Lemmer’s commitment to keep taxes low  - “No more knocking on resident’s doors for more money,” she pledges to investigate the Radisson Hotel fiasco to determine why the village loaned $18 million of taxpayer funds to developers.

In an interview with MFTP President Steve Welcenbach, Lemmer also expressed grave concern about this week’s latest revelation of $217,000 being supplied by the village to cover payroll, tax liabilities and other ongoing expenses. Her opponent, Jeff Steliga, has been a member of the Village Board throughout the Radisson Hotel development, and voted to approve the controversial village financial package.

With regard to Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) districts, Lemmer agreed conceptually with the MFTP position of opposing all TIF district creation and use as an alleged business development tool, even though the tax liabilities from TIF properties get shifted to existing non-TIF businesses and residents. But she also said she would look at TIF districts on a case by case basis.

"I don’t have a complete knowledge of TIF districts in every possible case so I can’t make that promise. What I can promise is to never vote for anything I do not fully understand.”

Fair enough.

Lemmer does favor the Bugline paving project in opposition to the MFTP position. However, she did suggest an intriguing compromise – pave the section north of Christman Drive and implement a more aggressive and effective maintenance plan for the rest of the trail to eliminate the three specific areas prone to hazardous conditions from run off and incorrect gravel choice.

Given Jeff Steliga’s involvement with the Hotel and the shape of Menomonee Falls financial situation during Steliga’s tenure on the board, Bonnie Lemmer is the right choice on April 2nd.

In edition to Bonnie Lemmer, the group has also endorsed Jeremy Walz, Pat Roggensack and Don Pridemore
