Tuesday night Menomonee Falls crossed paths with top-ranked Marquette at Quad Park in Milwaukee.
Falls came into the game hoping to continue its historic season and pull off an upset and beat the state's best team for the first time ever.
When the game started, Marquette proved how good they were by scoring right off the bat, in the third minute. Senior captain, Alex McBride scored on a header off a corner kick.
Even when down, Falls had not given up, and they charged back scoring a goal in the 24th minute. Senior Ayoola Olapo beat the goalkeeper and tapped the ball in with ease.
The game was tied until half, but things turned sour for Falls in the second half.
When the second half started, Marquette came out quickly again and scored twice in the first seven minutes of the half.
Down 3-1, Falls had still not given up. Giving everything they had, they just couldn't finish. Marquette scored once more winning the game 4-1.
Marquette may have been the better team that night, but Menomonee Falls showed encouraging signs of dominance when possessing the ball. A rematch down the road may pose different results.
Menomonee Falls is now 3-1-0 in the Greater Metro Conference. Second to Marquette now 4-0-0 in conference. Menomonee Falls overall record is 8-3-2.
The Falls will take part in the Cedurburg tournement Friday and Saturday. Come show your support in Cedurburg at 4 p.m. Friday.
