Dust Off Those Waders, Falls River Cleanup Kicks Off Next Week

Last year hundreds of volunteers picked up litter along the river, and volunteers are agin needed to help with the cleanup.

Be sure to mark calendars and dust off your waders. The annual Menomonee Falls River cleanup event kicks off April 21.

Registration for the cleanup begins at 8:15 a.m. at along Fond du Lac Avenue. The cleaning begins at 9 a.m. and will end at noon.

Last year, hundreds of volunteers converged on the river to pick up what was once hidden by winter. Each year, volunteers challenge themselves to find the most unique item along the river. Last year, a group of young volunteers found a dehumidifier.

Some of participants have already signed up to help this year, but more volunteers and site leaders are needed. If you have not yet registered, there are still locations to choose from. Maps of the sites can be viewed online for your convenience. To pre-Register, go to www.Menomonee-Falls.org/signup.

This is a rain or shine event.  Organizers will be supplying trash bags, but participants are encouraged to bring gloves.

Milwaukee Riverkeepers and the Menomonee Falls Stormwater Department are organizing the event. Waste Management, Walmart, Nino's Bakery, Starbucks, Angelo's Café Vino, Cousins, Ally's Bistro, Best Buy, Sentry and Woodmans are sponsoring the cleanup.

First of all, you don't pay taxes. Second, 90% of the proceeds go to huge corporations. Third, it isRead More very disingenuous for you to say that "80% of relief goes to President Obama's definition of middle-class taxpayers." In more appropriate words, that is a flat out LIE.

Yes I do pay taxes John. Got some bad weed again John, eh?

I agree with Nuitari (just this one time). I think I like the old version of the Patch MUCH better!

I agree too. But WISN likes to run the light version of news, only covering topics they feel weRead More should know about- or fits their agenda.

I think that the Patch is making a sincere effort to actually get into what Conservatives refer toRead More as “elite journalism.” What Conservatives mean by that is, people who read, write, present facts, and possess the ability to actually analyze written articles, and provide fact-based responses, rather than snarky, juvenile or scatological, religious dogma. Those of you still wearing your loin cloths since birth, and still living in your caves need not participate…
