Falls Students Organizing the First 'Dash for Dylan'

The Menomonee Falls High School Student Council is organizing to honor Dylan Smith's life and raise funds for the Catch-A-Dream Foundation.

Menomonee Falls High School students are once pulling together once again for the teen that inspired a community, Dylan Smith.

The MFHS Student Council is organizing a memorial run, the Dash for Dylan, to raise funds for the Catch-A-Dream Foundation. The foundation offers hunting and fishing excursions for children with life-threatening illnesses. The dash is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Menomonee Falls High School.

Smith passed away in October 2012 at the age of 13 after battling muscular dystrophy. However, his courage and positive outlook inspired students, teachers and the Falls community. In 2012, North Middle School students sold T-shirts and the Student Council hosted a benefit to raise funds for a new off-road-capable wheelchair.

The Dash for Dylan will feature the option of a 5K run or a 3K walk. To join the run, you simply register online. If you register before Oct. 5, it's $20 for runners younger than 16 and $25 for runners over 16. The registration fees rise to $25 and $30 respectively for all runners who sign up after Oct. 5.

You can also pay the higher fee to register the day of the event from 7-8:30 a.m. If you can't join the run, you can still donate to the cause online.
