Week 8 Reviewed, Cher is in the Ballroom!

Week 8 of Dancing with the Stars is here and this was ‘Cher’ night.

All the contestants were performing to some of her biggest hits and she was Guest Judging the show this week in Len’s absence.

Corbin opened the show with an Argentine Tango. This looked like a routine to me rather than a story of two people dancing together displaying the Tango characteristics. His feet were not as articulated as they could be but it was an error free performance and he did a good job.

King of Queens star Leah Rimini was up next dancing the Viennese Waltz. This dance is a difficult one to execute because you have a very fast tempo matched with lots of rotation. This can distort the frame and Ballroom position which happened a little. To show the progression and the character of this dance it is important to use the heel of the foot on the forward progressive steps. This helps produce a smooth movement. The number was well rehearsed and Leah overall should be pleased with how she tackled this dance.

Brant had a disrupted practice schedule to perform his Foxtrot and this showed in his performance. The Foxtrot is a fun, jazzy dance that is not to be taken too seriously. Brant has a natural charm but I found this dance to be abrupt and rough around the edges. The song ‘It’s in his kiss’ is really upbeat and I felt that both the content and style of what they did wasn’t as good as it could have been.

Elizabeth went next with a Jazz number that was strong, dramatic and very dynamic. Jazz to me has a little more light and shade than they chose to show and I would have liked to have seen more partnership dancing but overall it had good qualities.

Some Disco Dancing was in order for Bill and he certainly brought a high energy, action packed routine to the Ballroom this evening. It had some incredible lifts that Bill was able to transition very well. He showed rhythm and the only thing I would have liked to have seen was more consistency in the timing.

Fresh from his first ‘10’ from the judges last week Jack danced the Tango. He has a good frame and posture with just a little work could be fantastic. He need to relax his shoulders a little and ensure he keeps his head to the left when in closed position. In the Tango the lady is a little more offset in relation to the man and so the ‘love, hate’ character is emphasized as the couple are not looking at each other. He is using his feet and legs very well which enhanced this dance.

The Rumba was danced next by Amber and she did a really good job reacting to Derek’s lead and showing a very feminine portrayal in this dance. She had good rhythm in her hips but I would like to see her use her legs a little more to create even more. She does have some issues with her knees so maybe this was the reason. She did a great job though.

Gaining the highest score from the judges meant that Amber and Derek were immune from elimination. The remaining couples would choose and opponent and have a ‘dance off’.

Brant and Pete were chosen as the couple to leave the show.
