Ask The Expert

What is a "Trip Charge" or "Service Call fee"?

As we approach the Winter season you may find that your furnace can't keep up or stops working all together, so in this session of "Ask the Expert" we would like to cover one of our frequently asked questions about "trip charges".

A "trip charge" or "service call fee" is a flat fee for the costs associated with the time and travel to diagnose, inspect and provide recommendations for a home's heating or air conditioning system.  These charges are in addition to the repair work and will vary by location and contractor (they usually range from $50 to $100).  After the initial inspection and diagnosis is completed you will be given an approximate cost to repair the problem or a recommendation to replace.  At that time it is your choice to either continue with the repairs/replacement or to get further opinions with other contractors.
