Walking in the danger zone

With Main Street getting decommissioned this month and the Fire house moving a little to the west at one point, will the Downtown become more pedestrian friendly?  At this point you take your life in your hands walking into traffic, even in the crosswalks.  One has to eyeball the drivers before walking into their path.  Many drivers don't look at you and continue racing up or down the street probably thinking if they don't look at you, you're really not there.  The truck drivers do not want to downshift and many don't even try.  Tim and I wave in thanks to the ones that let us move from one side to the other, to the others.... what's the hurry and can't you read?
