Were You Watching The Skies?

Not everything interesting happens on the ground.

Tim and I have been watching the skies and not just for the interesting storm clouds, but the flocking of birds (Note: the ducks never seem to use their wings).

One day there must have been at least 15 Red-Tailed Hawks circling the pond, lazily riding the wind swooping and gliding.  It was an amazing sight.  Several days later there they were again, but to the southeast of the and it appeared that the flock had grown.  They were circling for over 20 minutes until several seemed to loose interest and break off.

I remember the first time I saw a Red-Tailed Hawk in the Falls near our house, it must of been 20 years ago and it was only one mating pair.  They were actually a surprise as we had fox on our property and these two compete for the same food.  The zoo told me that the fox will leave if the hawks come in and low and behold, the fox moved on. Maybe someone else has seen this phenomenon of so many hawks together and would share their information. Living so far above the ground gives one a whole new perspective.
