Cooler Weather Expected for Civil War Encampment

Temperatures are expected to hover in the upper 70s Saturday, which is quite a reprieve from heat wave that hit during the work week.

Keep your heads up folks, the heat wave is expected to recede Saturday. That means great weather for a trip back in history.

The 14th Civil War Encampment returns to the village at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Old Falls Village. The annual event features artillery drills, battle re-enactments, and even an old-fashioned tar-and-feathering of a village malcontent.

Though battle re-enactments are bound to be heated, the weather may not. Forecasters are expecting highs in the upper 70s and low 80s Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The infantry drills occur at 10:30 a.m. each day, and are followed by artillery demonstrations. Battle re-enactments kick off at 2 p.m. each day. Nicholas Bur, or President Abraham Lincoln at Old Falls Village, will speak at 3 p.m. July 21.

All of the buildings on the grounds will be open for viewing. The cost to enjoy the Civil War Encampment is $5 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for kids under 12.
