Fourth of July Festivities In Menomonee Falls

Official Fourth of July celebrations begin July 3 in Menomonee Falls. However, if you want a good spot for the parade you'll need to participate in the annual "Land Grab" on Appleton Avenue.

Every year it seems to sneak up on us, but the Fourth of July is just around the corner. There’s a full day of events planned to celebrate the holiday in Menomonee Falls.

For those that like the best seat for the parade, the annual “Land Grab” is set to commence from 7-7:30 p.m. July 2 in the median on Appleton Avenue. Appleton Avenue will be closed from Lilly Road to Pilgrim Road, and police will be on hand to ensure nothing is placed before the roadway is closed. In case you aren’t familiar, the “Land Grab” is an annual pilgrimage to familial seating grounds along the median. Some families have reserved the same spots for years.

In 2011, police turned the pilgrimage into an official operation to ensure things run smoothly. Remember, there is no staking allowed prior to the shutdown of the roadway. This, of course, is to ensure the safety of all the “land grabbers.”

After the spots are staked out, the parade will commence at 7 p.m. July 3. The route begins at Elm Lane and proceeds south down Appleton Avenue. Then, it meanders onto Woosencraft Drive at ends at Menomonee Falls High School.

Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the high school.

If you plan to drive through Menomonee Falls along Appleton Avenue, the roadway will be closed starting at 6 p.m.
