Winning Isn’t Everything, and Right Now We’d Take a Tie

Even the predictable training camp scuffle was a failure for the 2013 Green Bay Packers.

Despite numerous punches being thrown, nobody was able to land one to the face of ex-teammate and current Grade A nimrod Greg Jennings, whose mute button is malfunctioning once again. Furthermore, some fans would be disappointed to note that tight end Jermichael Finley was unable to break his hand on a teammate’s facemask. But that would just be cynical.

It’s not been a great camp so far for the Packers. After left tackle Bryan Bulaga was lost for the season with an injury, the team announced receiver Jordy Nelson would miss all of training camp after a minor knee surgery. Embattled kicker Mason Crosby performed horrifically at the Family Night scrimmage, and when his jersey was given away in a post-scrimmage drawing, it was booed. The backup quarterbacks have been underwhelming enough that Green Bay took a flier on former Heisman Trophy winner Vince Young, who hasn’t played since 2011.

This would amount to nothing more than chatter if the play on the field was great, but Friday’s 17-0 loss to Arizona was not. The first-team offense moved the ball well on its only drive, and other than that the day was forgettable.

Oh, and first-round pick Datone Jones sprained his ankle on the first play.

The Packers’ next preseason game is at St. Louis on Saturday. Public training camp practices this week are Tuesday-Thursday at 11 or 11:15 a.m.
