Video: Seniors Dominate Homecoming Powder Puff Game

The Menomonee Falls High School seniors' grind-it-out run game too much for the juniors' hook-and-lateral offense, and the Class of 2012 posts a 38-21 victory.

It’s an epic rivalry going far back into the lore of . It’s an annual slugfest between the grizzled veterans of the senior flag football squad, and the proverbial underdogs — the juniors.

Though they may be friends in the hallways of MFHS, they are bitter rivals between the hash marks at Schumann Stadium. The annual Powder Puff game is one of the marquee events during Homecoming Week at MFHS. This year, the seniors lived up to their billing as the favored team and posted a comfortable 38-21 victory on Wednesday.

Nearly 200 girls from the class of 2012 and 2013 donned face paint, cleats and flags, and battled for bragging rights under the lights.

The seniors came out of the gates and established their…seniority…from the get-go. They utilized a bruising, up-the-gut run style that wore down the junior defense. Jillian Carlson put the seniors on the board scoring two first-half touchdowns. Alex Poole also put two in the end zone for the seniors.

Although points aren’t scored for creativity, the juniors ran a variety of plays from the shotgun. They often ran the hook-and-lateral option, and aired it out a few times from the same formation. In the first half, however, their only answer to the seniors was a long touchdown run by Leanne Hawk.

At halftime, the seniors had established at 35-7 halftime lead and never looked back.

The juniors turned the tides of momentum in the second half, and if in weren’t for a running clock and shortened half, they may have posted a comeback. The juniors outscored the seniors 14-3 in the second half, and seemed to be clicking on offense. Monica Carlson scored on a 71-yard touchdown scamper early in the half.

The seniors also got a record-setting performance from Molly Poeske. She kicked a 35-yard field goal in the second half and set a Powder Puff record.

The Powder Puff game was one of several events this week leading up to homecoming. On Friday, the football team will take on West Allis Hale at 7 p.m. at Schumann Stadium. The Indians need two more wins, and they’ll secure a spot in the playoffs.

The homecoming dance will be held Saturday at MFHS. The Grand March will begin at 7 p.m.
