Sports Wrap: Football Team Ranks 7th in State, Soccer Remains Undefeated

A weekly wrap of Menomonee Falls Indians sports.

It's impossible for one editor to be in several places at once, but Wednesdays will be a perfect day to run a quick wrap-up of the successful athletic performances at Menomonee Falls High School.

Football: The Indians opened the season with a big 16-10 win over Oak Creek Friday, which is a team that went undefeated into the playoffs last year. Falls' Christian Almonte and Bryce McMurtry both scored touchdowns in the opening game.

The win placed the Indians in seventh position in the Wissports.net Week 1 Coaches Poll. The Indians (1-0, 0-0 Greater Metro) will play their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday against West Bend East (0-1, 0-0 Little Ten).

Soccer: The soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating Wauwatosa East 4-3 Tuesday in the sweltering heat. The team took home the Racine Case Tournament the week prior. The Indians will look to continue their strong start against Wauwatosa West at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Menomonee Falls.

Girls Golf: Morgan Scrobel and Jessica Gruber finished with one over par 72 for a first place finish Monday at the Schroeder Memorial at Wanaki Golf Course. The team finished with a score of 389.

Volleyball: The girls volleyball team will open the season against Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 7 p.m. in the Menomonee Falls High School gymnasium.

Cross Country: The Falls Coaches Classic Invitational for boys and girls will be held from 3:15-6:15 p.m. Thursday at Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls.

Tennis: The girls tennis team will travel to Wauwatosa East from 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
