Soccer and Volleyball Teams Going Pink This Week for Cancer

Throughout the week, both teams will be hosting a series of events to raise funds for the Susan G. Koman cancer research program.

The soccer and volleyball programs have teamed up to “Go Pink” this week to raise funds for the Susan G. Koman cancer research program.

On Tuesday, the soccer teams will take on West Allis central at MFHS in the "Go Pink" game. The junior varsity team plays at 5 p.m., and varsity begins at 7 p.m. At halftime of the junior varsity game, parents will be honored at halftime. It's "Staff Appreciation Night" at halftime of the varsity game.

The two teams have scheduled a series of events this week in an effort build awareness and raise money. On Wednesday, the varsity soccer team and the varsity volleyball team will square off in a volleyball scrimmage at MFHS. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m.

will be at the event Wednesday serving ice cream, and all donations will go to the teams’ “Go Pink” fundraiser. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event as well. Students and staff are encouraged to wear pink on Wednesday, and staff will have the opportunity to wear jeans with a $5 donation to the "Go Pink" fund.

On Thursday, the junior varsity volleyball team will play its “Go Pink” tournament at 4:30 p.m. at MFHS. Again, there will be raffle tickets sold to raise funds.

The week culminates on Saturday, and it will begin with a varsity volleyball tournament at 9 a.m. at the high school. Jim Held will speak on behalf of sponsors about the “Go Pink” event at 8:30 a.m. Varsity soccer players will also be at the event at 8:15 a.m.

Then, the soccer team will host a cookout at MFHS from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for all the fans. The JV and varsity soccer teams will take on Milwaukee Riverside at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. Winners of the raffle will be announced after the games.

The “Go Pink” events have built cancer awareness among student athletes, and have also taught a valuable lesson about giving back to the community. Both the volleyball and soccer teams have raised $20,000 over the past two years for Susan G. Koman, and the teams hope to raise another $10,000 this year.
