Simone Lee Makes First Cut for National Volleyball Team

Falls volleyball standout, Simone Lee, will participate in a third tryout to land a spot among the 12 girls on the U.S. Girls' Youth National Volleyball Team.

Falls’ Simone Lee was among the 16 players that survived the first cut, which puts her one step closer to securing a spot on the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Volleyball Team.

After three days of tryouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, the field of 26 was trimmed to 16 players Sunday. Head Coach Jim Stone selected Lee, who is an outsider hitter, to make it past the first round. However, Lee will need to participate in a third tryout before the final squad of 12 is announced.

The remaining 16 players will participate in a third training session July 8-21 in Anaheim, Calif., at the American Sports Centers, which also serves as the USA Men’s and Women’s National Teams Center. During the third tryout, the roster will be reduced to the maximum 12 players who will represent the United States in the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U-18 World Championship to be held July 25 to Aug. 4 at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Lee also plays club volleyball with Club Fusion in Marengo, IL. Last year, Lee played an instrumental role on the national team, and helped lead the squad to a 2012 Continental Championship crown in Mexico. Last year’s victory sealed a spot for the United States at the upcoming World Championship.

Lee, a 6-foot, 1-inch outside hitter, has verbally committed to play volleyball at Penn State University after graduating in 2014.
