Roads Could Be Treacherous on the Way to Packers Game

If you're headed north to see Green Bay take on Detroit Sunday, make sure you allow yourself some extra time for travel.

If you're lucky enough to have tickets to Sunday night's prime-time showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions, make sure you allow yourself a little extra time for the trip north because the roads could be treacherous.

The National Weather Service says a significant storm that could bring more than 6 inches of snow to north-central and northeast Wisconsin could begin as early as late Saturday night and continue into Sunday night.

The weather service says hazardous travel conditions could occur in the Green Bay area as a result of the snowfall, so allow some extra time on your way to Lambeau Field. Forecasters also note, however, that there still a lot of uncertainty about the size and strength of the storm.

The good news is that there is not a lot of road construction going on right now, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Still, drivers might  encounter road conditions in some remaining work zones that could cause backups, the DOT says and the agency recommends motorists allow themselves additional time to reach the stadium for the 7:20 p.m. game.

Here is a list of the major roads in northeast Wisconsin most Packers fans will be traveling and the road conditions they should anticipate:

U.S. Highway 41

  • Brown County: Drivers will encounter 11-foot travel lanes and reduced shoulders in multiple locations along a 10-mile segment of highway. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph from just south of Scheuring Road to I-43.
  • Winnebago County: Most of 12 miles of highway, from 9th Avenue to Breezewood Lane, has restricted shoulders and lane widths. The speed limit on northbound US 41 from U.S. Highway 45 to Breezewood Lane has returned to 65 mph. Southbound U.S. Highway 41 remains 55 mph in this location. Highway 41 between 9th Avenue and Highway 45 also remains 55 mph in both directions.

Wisconsin Highway 29

  • Brown County: Highway 29 is closed to traffic between Packerland Drive and U.S. Highway 41, with all Highway 29 traffic being rerouted to the new Shawano Avenue adjacent to old Highway 29. Access is maintained to Highway 41 from Highway 29/Shawano Avenue. Backups should be anticipated along this stretch of the road.

First of all, you don't pay taxes. Second, 90% of the proceeds go to huge corporations. Third, it isRead More very disingenuous for you to say that "80% of relief goes to President Obama's definition of middle-class taxpayers." In more appropriate words, that is a flat out LIE.

Yes I do pay taxes John. Got some bad weed again John, eh?

I agree with Nuitari (just this one time). I think I like the old version of the Patch MUCH better!

I agree too. But WISN likes to run the light version of news, only covering topics they feel weRead More should know about- or fits their agenda.

I think that the Patch is making a sincere effort to actually get into what Conservatives refer toRead More as “elite journalism.” What Conservatives mean by that is, people who read, write, present facts, and possess the ability to actually analyze written articles, and provide fact-based responses, rather than snarky, juvenile or scatological, religious dogma. Those of you still wearing your loin cloths since birth, and still living in your caves need not participate…

Thought it would be interesting. Just confirms my belief over cops and cell phones.

Thanks Carl. It will be interesting to see what develops.

Scott Walker is definitely the antidote for B. Hussein Obama's Socialist maneuvers. Everything ObamaRead More effed up over 8 years can be repaired by reform expert Scott Walker. I just hope it will not be too late. POS POTUS will have us spending 80% of our income in taxes.
