Indians Advance, Sussex Hamilton is Next

The Indians soccer team got off to a sluggish start Tuesday, but defeated Milwaukee Riverside to advance to the next round in the WIAA tournament.

The Menomonee Falls Indians are moving on, but not they way you would expect.

The varsity soccer team defeated Milwaukee Riverside High School in the first round of the WIAA playoffs Tuesday. The Indians will renew a cross-town rivalry against tenth-seeded Sussex Hamilton High School at 7 p.m. Thursday at Menomonee Falls High School.

The Indians started the game, which was an early 5 p.m. start, rather sluggishly. Riverside, the 15-seed, took an early 1-0 lead off a goal from Enrique Chavez. Falls tied the game up in the 24th minute and went into halftime tied 1-1.

However, the Indians littered the net in the second half and stacked 4 goals on Riverside to claim a comfortable 5-1 victory and advance. The Sussex Hamilton Chargers finished the season in seventh place out of eight teams in the Greater Metro Conference. The Indians and the Chargers ended there last meeting on Sept. 18 in a 1-1 draw.

If Falls wins Thursday, they will advance to sectionals and face the winner of Germantown and Brookfield East.
