Falls Wins Big in Rematch With Cross-Town Rival Sussex Hamilton

The Indians exacted revenge against their conference rivals 68-57 and split the season series.

It was the between the Menomonee Falls Indians and the Sussex Hamilton Chargers Friday night at Menomonee Falls High School, and both teams entered the game hot. Something had to give.

After a quick start by both teams in the first quarter, it was the Chargers’ defense that gave up the most scoring runs. As a result, the Indians exacted revenge against their cross-town rivals 68-57 and split the season series.

JP Tokoto led the Indians in scoring with 27, but got a lot of support from CJ Malone who added 21 of his own. Malone also scored 9 points from beyond the arc.

Brady Ellingson, on the other hand, led the Chargers in scoring with 17 points and drained three three-pointers. Nick Patterson and Tony Gumina were the other two Chargers to score in double digits.

Both the Falls and Sussex student sections were packed full with rowdy students, and the gym was electric with energy at the tip. The players clearly fed on that energy and it was up-and-down basketball throughout the first quarter. The Chargers went into the first break with a 20-18 lead.

The Chargers found early success in their set plays cutting to the basket. However, in the second quarter the Indians slowed play down a stiffened their defensive approach. They outscored the Chargers 22-12 in the second quarter and never turned back.

The Chargers won the first meeting with the Indians 67-62 back in January in Sussex.

The Indians (10-8, 7-5 Greater Metro) are gelling late in the season and have won six of their last seven games going into the final four games of the season. They are currently fourth in the conference, and they trail Wauwatosa East by one game for third place.

The Chargers (10-10, 5-7 Greater Metro) still have a chance to finish even their conference record. They will go on the road in their final two games to face conference rivals West Allis Hale and Brookfield Central.
