Falls to Interview Two Internal Candidates to Replace Siebert

Athletic director Petroff expects decision to be made within the next several days

Two internal candidates will be interviewed for the Menomonee Falls boys basketball coaching opening on Thursday, Falls athletic director Dave Petroff said Tuesday.

The new coach will replaced Ben Siebert, who resigned in March.

According to Petroff, the labor agreement between the school district and the teacher’s union requires the district to hire from within the school district if there is a qualified candidate.

Petroff declined to say who the district will be interviewing Thursday, but according to sources, Falls freshman coach Dan Leffel, who teaches at North Middle School, applied for the varsity position. Falls sophomore coach Matt Voigt told Patch that he was not a candidate for the opening.

Dan Heckman, who was Siebert’s top assistant, is a teacher at Sussex Hamilton High School and is not in the running since he is not a Falls school district employee.

Petroff said he expects a decision to be made within the next several days.

Siebert announced that he was stepping down as head coach March 24, and cited personal reasons for his decision.

Siebert finished with a 47-25 record in his three seasons as coach at Menomonee Falls. That includes a 11-12 record this past season, which included a first-round loss to Waukesha South in the WIAA regional. Siebert teaches math at the high school.
