Falls Spiker Invited to US National Team Tryout

Simone Lee, an outside hitter for the Indians girls volleyball team, will head to Colorado Springs later this month to compete for a spot on the U.S. Girls' Youth National Volleyball Team.

Menomonee Falls’ volleyball star Simone Lee has been invited to tryout with the 2012 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Volleyball team later this month.

Lee, a sophomore at MFHS, will travel to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from May 31 to June 3 to compete against 24 other athletes from around the country for a spot on the national team, according to USAVollyball.com. Only 12 players will be chosen for the team with an additional eight identified as alternates.

If Lee makes the team, she will then travel to the Dominican Republic to participate in the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championships from June 24 to July 2. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the world championships in 2013.

Lee, a 6-foot, 1-inch outside hitter, has verbally committed to play volleyball at Penn State University after graduating in 2014, according to Milwaukee Sting volleyball – her club team.

Lee helped lead the Indians to the team’s eighth conference championship in nine years. However, the team came up short in the WIAA Regional round against Mukwonago. According to WisSports.net, Lee recorded 33 aces and had a hit percentage of .351.

Lee’s sister, Chelsea, is a senior and played with Lee on the team. She committed to play volleyball at Eastern Illinois, according to JSOnline.

Lee is also quite active on YouTube and a number of highlights from her matches with both the Indians and the Sting can be viewed online
