Falls Softball Team Secures State Berth

There were some heart-stopping moments, but Menomonee Falls finally beat Watertown 4-1 on Friday to win the WIAA softball sectional.

The Indians meet Appleton East next Thursday in the state quarterfinals in Madison.

Falls led 2-0 when weather suspended play Thursday, and took a 4-1 lead into the seventh.

But the Goslings loaded the bases with one out and forced the Indians to call time twice to regroup.

Finally, pitcher Kelly Berglund forced one batter to pop out to short and another to first to end the game.

"All I was thinking was trust your defense and what (catcher) Jamie (Ertl) was calling," Berglund said.

"I am very confident in Kelly," said first-year coach Nick Heiting. "I myself was shaken at the moment."

Brittany Robinson was 2 for 3 with a key fifth-inning double and Maddie Eikenmeyer had 2 RBI.
