Falls Native Kyle French Scores 9 Points in Badgers' Victory

French got the start after after senior Philip Welch was sidelined with an injury.

Falls’ Kyle French certainly kept his kicking leg loose during the Badgers’ rout of UNLV Thursday during the football team’s season opener at Camp Randall in Madison.

French got the start in place of senior kicker Philip Welch, who was sidelined Thursday with a quad injury. French capitalized on his opportunity and scored a total of 9 points during the Badgers’ 51-17 rout of the Rebels, according to UWBadgers.com.

French split the uprights on a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the 2nd quarter to give the Badgers a 37-3 lead over the Rebels going into halftime. French also went 6 for 7 on extra point attempts. He missed an attempt in the first quarter after pushing it to the right.

While at , French made 19 of 34 field goals and 76 of 80 extra points. One scouting service, Rivals, ranked him as the third-most accurate high-school kicker in 2009.

French was offered scholarships to attend Northern Illinois and Wyoming, but he decided to attend Wisconsin, and will likely won't be the Badgers’ primary kicker until at least 2012.
