Falls' Mikayla Robertson Nabs Gold, Sets State Record

Menomonee Falls High School senior Mikayla Robertson broke a 16-year-old state record, and took home gold in the triple jump at the WIAA State Finals Friday in La Crosse.

It only took one jump for Falls' Mikayla Robertson to notch a place in the state track and field history books. In fact, she set the state triple jump record on her first attempt Friday at the WIAA State Track and Field meet in La Crosse.

It only got better from there.

Robertson broke the 26-year-old Wisconsin record, which was set in 1987 by Lee Ann Majerle of D.C. Everest. Robertson's first jump of the afternoon was 40 feet, four inches. Majerle's record was 39 feet, 3-3/4 inches.

For perspective, Robertson's second jump was also exceeded Majerle's. And that record-setting jump was all Robertson needed to capture the state triple jump title. Her nearest competitor landed three feet shorter.

Robertson in February committed to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado for track and field.
