School Aid Estimated to Drop 10 Percent In Falls

The Wisconsin Department of Instruction released state aid estimates Friday, and Falls will likely see state aid drop by just over $1 million.

The Menomonee Falls School District will see state aid drop slightly more than 10 percent based on estimates released Friday by the Department of Public Instruction.

In 2010-11 the district received $10,855,444 in aid from the state. In 2011-12, the DPI is estimating Falls will receive $9,755,562, which is a total reduction of 10.13 percent.

Since the beginning of the year, district administrators have been bracing for an overall $5.1 million budget deficit. The School Board with the teachers union in May that is expected to save the district $5.8 million in labor costs.

In April, administrators rolled out a to eliminating that deficit.

Just 13 out of the 424 districts across the state will receive an increase in aid next year.

The DPI estimates are derived from two areas: the and the relevant school district data from the 2010-11 school year. These include membership, shared costs and property value, according to a press release from the DPI.

The actual figures will be certified by DPI on Oct. 15, using school district data from 2011-12.
