Falls School District Revises Schedule Proposal

The latest proposal would roll back start times by 10 minutes at the middle school and high school.

If you aren’t an early riser, the latest schedule proposal from the Menomonee Falls School District is a bit of good news.

On Monday, Director of Human Resources Christiane Standlee brought forth a refined schedule proposal that would push start times at North Middle School and Menomonee Falls High School back 10 minutes earlier.

Under the new proposal, North students would start the earliest at 7:20 a.m. rather than 7:30 a.m. Students would be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. At MFHS, school would start at 7:50 a.m. rather than 8 a.m. High school students would be dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Elementary school schedules would remain unchanged.

The new schedule at MFHS also includes a weekly early release at 1:55 p.m. every Wednesday.

The latest schedule proposal calls for modest changes as compared to the original proposal . Under that proposal, classes at MFHS would have begun at 7:14 a.m., which is just more than 45 minutes earlier than the current schedule. On the other end, classes would have ended at 2:30 p.m.

High school students would also be released early every Wednesday at 1:40 p.m. under that proposal.

Changes to the schedule are inevitable, however. Standlee said the current schedule doesn’t feature enough time for staff development. The early release on Wednesdays would clear time for teachers to undergo the needed training.

Pending on community feedback, the proposal could be up for an approval at the School Board's Feb. 27 meeting.
