Back to School: Important Dates To Remember Before September

As the calendar flips to August, it's time to start marking important dates before heading back to school in September.

Not to rain on any Menomonee Falls student’s summer parade, but Alice Cooper was wrong when he said school was out forever. School starts for all students in the school district on Sept. 4, and registration and orientation are just around the corner.

Four-year-old kindergarten and children in the Early Learning Center will start school on Sept. 10.

Parents, here’s a look at important dates to mark on the calendar before your young scholar returns to the hallways of their school in September.

Incoming freshman and sophomores will register for school from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the high school. Juniors and seniors will register from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at the high school, as well. Class schedules will also be distributed during the registration period.

There is a make-up registration date from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 28.

If the dates or times conflict with a schedule, parents cane stop in during either date or register in the main office at the high school. Administrators would like all students to be registered before the first day of class. Fees can be paid online, by check, or with cash.

Student schedules for incoming students will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at the middle school. If you miss that date, schedules will also be handed out from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 24.

School leaders have also scheduled an information night for parents and students from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29. The information night is for all six-graders and any seventh- and eighth-grade students new to the district.

Aug. 21 is a big day for Ben Franklin Elementary families. From 3 to 8 p.m. on that day, parents can pick up their information packets and their child’s teacher assignments at the school. Children will also get their pictures taken that night, and parent’s can pick up their student’s supply toolbox if it was ordered.

Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization records, medical plans, and information about any new medications.

An open house is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the school. Parents can visit their child’s classroom, pay school fees, drop off completed forms, and add money to their child’s lunch account.

A back to school registration fair will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in the school gym. Parents are asked to bring their completed registration forms, join the PTA, and take student pictures.

Summer registration at Shady Lane will be held from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 21. Students will receive their teacher assignments and have their school photos taken. Be prepared to update your child’s demographic information and pay school fees.

The school will host its “Back to School Fair” from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the school. Like other schools, teacher assignments will be available and school pictures will be taken. Bring updated demographic information and school fees during the fair.

The school will also host a meet and greet from 4 to 5 p.m. Aug. 29.
