Advanced Placement Testing Reaches Record Levels at Falls High

More students took Advanced Placement tests than ever before at Menomonee Falls High School in 2013.

More Menomonee Falls students are getting a head start on earning college credit than ever before.

In 2013, Menomonee Falls High School administered a record 362 Advanced Placement (AP) exams, which is roughly 100 more than last year and more than any year in school history.

“We have asked students to challenge themselves with the most rigorous schedule possible,” said Principal Corey Golla. “Clearly they are embracing that challenge.”

On a scale of 1-5, students earned a score of 3 or higher on 80 percent of the tests. A 3 indicates college readiness and is enough to earn college credit in some courses.

The rise of AP exams is one example of the district’s focus on college readiness, including increasing resources for staff to better prepare students for college.

“We have invested in teacher professional development so that our teachers are better able to deliver college-level coursework. We have also developed opportunities in the summer for AP preparation for our students so that they build capacity to handle the rigors of the course,” said Gary Kiltz, director of Curriculum and Learning.

In addition, nearly 30 Falls students have been recognized as AP Scholars by earning a 3 or higher on three AP exams.

“These students have clearly committed themselves to a schedule that will prepare them for success when they leave our school,” said Golla. “I admire their commitment.”
