Greendale Walmart Celebrates Opening

The Walmart carries a variety of household items in a smaller supercenter format.

The long-awaited Greendale Supercenter Walmart finally opened Wednesday after more than two years of discussion and work.

Village officials, Walmart representatives and shoppers gathered today in celebration of the opening that included a Star-Spangled Banner performance, Martin Luther cheer squad performance, Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, product sampling and giveaways.

The new , it comes inbetween the 154,000-square-foot Greenfield Supercenter on Highway 100 and the 40,000-square-foot West Allis Neighborhood Market.

The new store features family apparel health and beauty aids, electronics, toys, garden items, jewelry, automotive products, home furnishings, hardware, sporting goods, pet supplies and housewares.

The grocery area will include a wide selection of fresh produce, including a variety of organic products. Other features include a bakery, meat and dairy products, dry goods and staples, beverages, a deli, frozen foods, canned and packaged goods, baking items and household supplies.

Walmart has donated about $5,000 in grants to area organization Greendale Police Department, Greendale Public Library and Greendale Schools.

The new building was built at the old U.S. Bowling Congress site. Before construction the property was valued at $4 million. Village officials have said that since the site is not a TIF District once development is done the value of the property would go up to $10 million or more, improving the village’s tax base.

Discussions about Walmart started in late 2010. The Village approved the construction in June 2011.

The average wage at Walmart for full-time hourly associates in Wisconsin is approximately $12.54 per hour, according to a press release from Walmart.

This site offers what I believe to be a pretty fair comparison. The claim seems to be true that Costco does pay better than Sam's Club... http://www.glassdoor.com/Hourly-Pay/SAM-S-CLUB-Hourly-Pay-E7811.htm http://www.glassdoor.com/Hourly-Pay/Costco-Wholesale-Hourly-Pay-E2590.htm

Went there Friday and bought a 42 inch Flatscreen TV for the American Legion Casino Nite next Saturday. I was greeted when I got there by several people and was treated great in the Electronics Department. I was not real fond of the employees with sign doing their imitation of Liberty Tax.

She...; ) I come to Patch for entertainment. True wit requires intelligence, so if "she" is a "crab ass" here on Patch who is really to blame?

Years back, before I really understood what Walmart was all about, I too bought a tv there. Turned out that brand made a "Walmart" version of the tv, which ended up lasting about 3 years. Hope you have better luck with your stripped-down model.

When comparison shopping, you have to make sure the model numbers are the same, otherwise you could end up with something made cheaper. Almost all of the bix box stores have their own model.
