Senior Apartment Plans Move Forward

Presbyterian Homes & Services is planning to construct a senior housing complex where a Walmart superstore was one proposed.

Planners are a long way from beginning construction, but a large senior housing development took a step forward this week.

Presbyterian Homes & Services has plans to build a 350-unit senior housing complex that would include senior apartments, assisted living, memory care, and nursing care. The plan would be completed in three phases, and would have buildings up to four stories in height pending necessary approvals.

The Plan Commission gave a positive recomendation to the Village Board to amend the land use and Comprehensive Plan to allow for the development's construction. Presbyterian Homes has several more rounds of approvals before construction begins.

The housing development would be built on the same spot once eyed by Walmart . However, Walmart's proposal was withdrawn after stiff opposition from residents two years ago. Before Walmart’s proposal, the location was set for medical offices in 2008.

Presbyterian Homes’ proposal includes a 20,000-square-foot “Town Center” with a kitchen, library, salon, theater room, community room, and wellness center. Residential units would subsequently be constructed as wings off of the “Town Center” over time.
