Pro-Choice Women's Political Group, Emily's List, Endorses Kathleen Falk

Democratic group has more than one million members and has helped elect hundreds of female legislators across the nation.

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, and gubernatorial hopeful, on Thursday received an endorsement from a political group dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to office.

The group, Emily’s List, has raised more than $86 million for female candidates since 1985 and has more than 1 million members nationwide, according to the group’s website. Emily’s List President Stephanie Schriock said Falk is the ideal candidate to stand up to the “radical Republican agenda, and get things done in Wisconsin.”

“Our country is at risk of having no female Democratic governors in office at the start of 2013,” Schriock said. “Our states – grappling with economic challenges and at risk of being manipulated by far-right social agenda at the legislative level – need the leadership priorities of pro-choice Democratic women, beginning with Kathleen Falk.”

Just over a week ago, Falk also received an endorsement from the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC). The announcement from WEAC was based on a democratic selection process conducted by teachers and staff across the state.

“We cannot afford to sit back,” said WEAC President Mary Bell. “Our state must focus on jobs, improving education and helping citizens. Kathleen Falk is ready to bring people together to find solutions, instead of tearing people apart as Walker has done.”

Falk was the first Democratic candidate to enter the recall election and is facing state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout for the Democratic nomination. State Sen. Tim Cullen dropped out of the race on Feb. 1.

Falk, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, and former U.S. Rep. David Obey top the list of favored challengers, according to a Public Policy Forum poll released in January. The poll has Barrett pegged as the frontrunner to challenge Walker, with results having him leading Falk 46 to 27 percent and Obey 42 to 30 percent in a potential head-to-head race.

However, Mayor Tom Barrett remains undecided whether he will seek a rematch. Barrett isn’t expected to make a decision until the April mayoral election.

The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board has not made a final decision on whether a recall will proceed against Walker. The agency is still reviewing the more than one million signatures submitted on recall petitions.

I deleted a comment that was overtly racist talking about African Americans and Asian Americans. This isn't the place for that kind of talk.

Nate!
Now THAT's funny!
Randy1949 February 17, 2012 at 02:47 pm
@JRH -- Hard to say. How many Anti-choice folks were planning to vote for Falk anyway? Frankly, there will be a primary, and I'll use my own brain about whom to support.
Nameless February 17, 2012 at 02:53 pm
Heather I agree with the decision only because it was irrelevant to the article. Otherwise it's true and if you followed the NBA you would agree.
Steve February 17, 2012 at 03:39 pm
Where can we go to talk about those things?
morninmist February 17, 2012 at 04:49 pm
It is a special day for all us volunteers--and for all in WI who are involved in the recall process.
becky abler @becks312 Dear Wisconsin 14: Thank you for all you've done for us over the past year, for your courage, and your integrity. #wiunion
Randy1949 February 17, 2012 at 05:13 pm
Race is an important topic, but it is not relevant to this discussion.
Sam Vedder February 17, 2012 at 06:20 pm
Well said OTYWC, and I agree.
Bren February 17, 2012 at 06:50 pm
Personally, I think we are all served when our government representation is as diverse as we are. Is there a better method of having our interests and needs understood? As I've written elsewhere, there are several potential challengers I'm interested in, but I would vote for Falk.
Keith Schmitz February 17, 2012 at 06:55 pm
Try Sykes Writes.
Bren February 17, 2012 at 06:55 pm
OneTerm, I've never observed Morninmist to insult people or indulge in name calling. That's my metric for "annoying," posters who, either through defensiveness and/or inability to craft a cogent opposing response, resort to playground tactics when responding to someone with a differing opinion.
Keith Schmitz February 17, 2012 at 06:57 pm
Would be nice if 1% Walker wouldn't work so hard to earn our hatred. He's so irritating Mother Theresa would whale on him.
morninmist February 17, 2012 at 08:12 pm
Great. Walker can hire more people or do some of the work himself instead of touring the country begging for $$$.

I am not settled on Falk either at this point. But if she wins the primary, of course my vote goes to her.
Bren February 17, 2012 at 09:04 pm
Well, Gov. Walker was warned that any additional requests for delays would be closely scrutinized. That fresh $700,000 cash infusion should indeed hire a few people. The creation of temporary jobs is an unexpected benefit of the recall.
Heather Asiyanbi (Editor) February 17, 2012 at 10:09 pm
@Nate - not only irrelevant to this discussion, but yes, it was overtly racist. Not really following the NBA any more, but I do attend Bucks games now and then and they're a lot of fun.
Heather Asiyanbi (Editor) February 17, 2012 at 10:11 pm
Race is, indeed, an important discussion throughout American society. But unless the article or blog post or column directly pertains to race, and this one clearly does not, what was the point other than to be inflammatory?
OneTermYesWeCan2012 February 18, 2012 at 03:27 pm
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
Randy1949 February 18, 2012 at 03:42 pm
I disagree. The distribution of wealth is becoming too top-heavy, such that the consumer classes are becoming unable to buy enough goods to keep the system going. You can argue that the very rich spend more money, and they do, but ultimately one person can wear only one pair of pants at a time, drive one car at a time and live in one house.
mau February 19, 2012 at 01:42 am
@JRH, thanks for the .jpg upload. They are in de Nile mode. That is going to be a good run-off with the democrats. Barrett will have his Emanuel mob thugs on his side and Falk will have the union mob thugs on her side.

Certainly, if you like tax increases, vote for that Falk......ing tax and spender. He did that for 14 years.

If we didn't have the African Americans and Puerto Ricans we would have no baseball , and if we had no Asians we would have no uniforms. First of all, you don't pay taxes. Second, 90% of the proceeds go to huge corporations. Third, it isRead More very disingenuous for you to say that "80% of relief goes to President Obama's definition of middle-class taxpayers." In more appropriate words, that is a flat out LIE.

I agree too. But WISN likes to run the light version of news, only covering topics they feel weRead More should know about- or fits their agenda.

I think that the Patch is making a sincere effort to actually get into what Conservatives refer toRead More as “elite journalism.” What Conservatives mean by that is, people who read, write, present facts, and possess the ability to actually analyze written articles, and provide fact-based responses, rather than snarky, juvenile or scatological, religious dogma. Those of you still wearing your loin cloths since birth, and still living in your caves need not participate…
