Mill Road Construction Expected to Resume Thursday

Work along the roadway was halted after a grading error was discovered, and designers needed to go back to the drawing boards.

After a four-week hiatus, construction along Mill Road in Menomonee Falls is set to resume on Thursday.

Residents living in neighborhoods along the currently gravel roadway have seen the familiar construction signs and work equipment, but nothing getting done. Tom Hoffman, the village’s director of engineering, said the halt in construction stemmed from a designer error.

Basically, the grading near the intersections was off, and it wasn’t working with how the storm sewers drain. Hoffman said most of the intersections along the roadway would need to be reworked. The Department of Transportation has been working with the designer to rectify the error. Since it is a DOT project, the cost to correct the error will not come from village coffers.

Hoffman said the project was about a month ahead of time when construction was halted. Therefore, the original completion deadline of Dec. 1 is still expected to be met.

After the project is completed, Mill Road will include two lanes and outer auxiliary lanes. The road profile will also be flattened for better site distance.
