Menomonee Falls Unemployment Rate Up for 4th Straight Month

The village's rate of 6.8 percent is still well below the state's 8.2 figure. But the number, compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, was 4.9 percent back in October.

Menomonee Falls’ estimated unemployment rate in February was 24th of 32 Wisconsin municipalities with at least 25,000 people, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development.

The rate of 6.8 percent is up from 6.4 percent in January, which also was the rate in February 2012. Numbers are not seasonally adjusted.

According to a release from the state, this data is compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics based on Unemployment Insurance claims and a monthly survey of 1,450 Wisconsin households (0.06 percent), called the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS).

Municipalities with the five lowest rates in Feburary were:

  • Caledonia  4.3
  • Madison 5.3
  • Fitchburg 5.7
  • Wauwatosa 6.3
  • New Berlin 6.6

The municipalities with the five highest rates were:

  • Racine 13.4
  • Beloit 13.3
  • Milwaukee 11.1
  • Wausau 10.8
  • Kenosha 10.8

Wisconsin's enemployment rate is 7.2%, not 8.2%. Good catch, Steve.

That would be the "seasonally adjusted rate", which is 7.2 percent. The article utilizes the "not seasonally adjusted" rate, which is 8.2 percent according to statistics released by the DWD April 3. http://dwd.wisconsin.gov/dwd/newsreleases/2013/unemployment/130403_feb_local.pdf The article indicates that the numbers used were not seasonally adjusted.

Where are all of these high quality jobs that we are spending TIF and payouts for? It doesn't look like it is benefitting the village people.

Bill - The state's rate is currently 7.0% but destined to rise higher each month...
