It's Full Speed Ahead for Darling Recall Election as Signatures Ruled Valid

State board rules there are enough valid signatures on petitions to trigger July 12 election in 8th Senate District.

The state Government Accountability Board Tuesday certified that the signatures gathered in the Sen. Alberta Darling effort are valid, a decision that paves the way for a July 12 recall election.

Darling, a Republican from River Hills, submitted a challenge to the recall petition and the integrity of the petition process.

The board agreed to strike 2,813 of the challenged signatures, while validating 22,243 signatures. The petitioners needed to gather 20,343 signatures to force a recall election in the 8th Senate District, which includes Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and Menomonee Falls.

Among the faulty signatures was “Adolf Hitler” residing in “Berlin.” This signature was rejected by the GAB and was not counted.

A Whitefish Bay man alleged he signed the petition after being told the petition was in support of Darling. In an affidavit, he alleged that he voiced his support for Darling to the recall petitioner, and then the petitioners told him the petition was in support of Darling.

Darling will face Democratic State Rep. Sandy Pasch, of Whitefish Bay, in the election.

The state board only considered the petition signatures against the three Republican senators Tuesday morning, meaning those elections will meet the June 3 certification deadline for a July 12 election.

The legal challenges in the petitions against three Democratic senators - Jim Holperin, Robert Wirch and Dave Hansen - will be considered the week of June 6, meaning a later election date will be scheduled in those races.

Kevin Kennedy, director of the board, said

“We were making every effort to meet the June 3 requirement for certification,” he said. "Bear in mind, we looked at thousands of challenges to the Darling petitions.”

@Joe Peterlin... I agree that Nixon wage/price controls did not directly cause this mess but it was the beginning point followed soon thereafter by the OPEC Oil Embargo. People naturally assumed we could follow keynesian economics and we would pull out of it, even Reagan with his huge defense spending program. Our model of economics hasn't changed and now we are in the mess. Business with government led us and like "sheeple" we followed. We now know the American Dream was a myth and the new reality is a nightmare.

Yes Chuck , elections do matter. Just look what has happened in Michigan since the last election. The will of the people has become the will of the governor. I fhe doesn't like the way a town is funtioning , he fires all elected officials and appointes someone to tell the people what to do. So what if the people's votes doesn't count ? All that matters is what is good for the GOP . And that is the way you want your state to be run . Charge on King " snake " Walker.

Darling is not helping to fix the problem , she is part of the problem . And as for the " Famous Fab 14 ", God bless them , one and all. If not for them Walker would be living like a king . Did you know what was in his Budget Repair Bill when the Repubs. passed it ? I'am betting not. And neither did most of the " common people ". By the Dems leaving the state , people had a chance to read and understand it, and they decided they didn't like it one bit. Do you really want to put the state power companiec in the Koch bros. hands, to let them charge whatever they want for your electric services ?That's what is going to happen if the Snake gets his way. He knows he's a 1 term Governor at best. He's betting on the Koch Bros. taking care of him after he is recalled. I can't believe you and people like you can't see this.
