Falls Voter Turnout Edges 90 Percent Tuesday

Menomonee Falls voters went to the polls in presidential fashion on Tuesday, and demonstrated strong support for Gov. Scott Walker.

In Menomonee Falls, it wasn’t about how many people voted in Tuesday’s recall – it was more about who didn’t.

The historically divisive and rare recall election between Gov. Scott Walker and Mayor Tom Barrett struck voter apathy down with a mighty sword in the village Tuesday.

After polls closed, a total of 20,099 of the 23,329 voters had cast ballots in Menomonee Falls sending turnout to 86 percent. Roughly 2,000 more voters hit the polls Tuesday than in the gubernatorial election between the same two candidates in November 2010. Turnout for that election was 76 percent.

However, that didn’t quite eclipse the totals from the presidential election in 2008 where 21,374 totals votes were cast.

History once again repeated itself Tuesday, and the village that typically sways Republican, surprised no one.
