Dan Knodl Releases Statement On Concealed Carry Vote

Assembly sends bill over to Gov. Scott Walker for his signature.

After well over a decade of debate and discussion, a bill allowing law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed weapon appears to be on the verge of becoming law according to State Representative Dan Knodl (R-Germantown).

Senate Bill 93, the “concealed carry” proposal, has been approved by the State Assembly in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 68-27.  SB 93 won the approval of the State Senate last week in a similar overwhelming bipartisan vote of 25-8.

“I’m proud to stand behind for the Second Amendment rights granted to every law-abiding citizen of our country in the U.S. Constitution,” said Knodl.  “For too long, politicians in Wisconsin have stood in the way of citizens’ ability to properly protect themselves while, at the same time, knowing full well that criminals would be carrying concealed firearms regardless of whether law permitted it.”

Specifically, SB 93 contains a streamlined licensing process and requires criminal background checks and firearms safety training (with certain exemptions) for those who wish to carry concealed weapons in Wisconsin.

“Today, we’ve won a victory for Constitutional rights – but we’ve also made a strong statement that we believe the good people of Wisconsin are responsible enough to provide for their own personal protection,” Knodl said.  “With the licensing and training requirements, we can know that the people who will be seeking a permit under this new law are responsible citizens who will make responsible choices.  It has been a long time coming – too long.”
