Architects Drafting Designs for Two New Fire Stations

The Menomonee Falls Fire Department will have two new fire stations come 2014. The Village Board sought efficiencies of scale by designing and constructing both stations at the same time.

Menomonee Falls will be home to two new fire stations come 2014, and architects are putting those designs together now.

Next year, Fire Station #1, at Appleton Avenue and Garfield Drive, will be relocated to a newly constructed station on Main Street and Menomonee Avenue. Fire Station #5, a brand new station, will be built on Silver Spring Drive just west of One Mile Road.

With an eye on cost savings, the Village Board on Monday approved moving forward with designs for both stations. The fire station designs will be similar, and the village has hired a familiar architect for the project to reduce costs. The village has budgeted $5.9 million for the construction of both stations.

Fire Station #1 was built in 1929 and is no longer sufficiently sized for the equipment and vehicles that must be stored there. The village would likely sell the station once it is relocated. Village President Randy Newman casually suggested putting a brewpub in the building.

Fire Station #5 will provide service to the southwest corner of the village for existing and future development. Each station will feature an area for Menomonee Falls police officers to write reports and other duties at each new station rather than travel back to headquarters.Β
