Worst First Date Ever?

Falls man faces drunk driving and drug charges after he's pulled over while out on a first date with a woman.

While you think you may have been on some nightmarish first dates, a Menomonee Falls man may have set a new bad date bar for one woman when he was pulled over for allegedly driving drunk and hiding pills in his underwear while they were out together for the first time.

Paul T. Sage, 33, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs and one count of second offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison and $11,100 in fines.

At 1:51 a.m. Sunday, Menomonee Falls police officers were called to the intersection of Pilgrim Road and Silver Spring Drive after someone reported a car driving erratically that had then stopped at the intersection for some period of time. While on their way to the intersection officers were informed the car was now headed northbound on Pilgrim and doing 47 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour speed zone.

Once an officer caught up to the car, he turned on his emergency lights to pull over, but Sage, who was driving, continued. The officer then turned on his siren, but Sage continued driving until he reached the entrance of the Harley Davidson factory and pulled in.

Once the car stopped, officers could see Sage fidgeting inside while a woman was sitting in the passenger seat. Concerned there were weapons in the car, officers ordered the two to show their hands while officers approached the car.

As one officer approached, he could see a nearly full bottle of whiskey behind the driver’s seat.

The woman in the car then told officers Sage didn’t pull over because he had been trying to hide pills in his pants.

Sage told officers he was on a first date with the woman and they had gone to Mitchell’s to shoot pool. He denied hiding pills in his pants, but after confronted about what the woman said, he admitted to placing three Oxycontin pills in his underwear.

He then failed field sobriety tests and performed a Breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.171, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

Sage was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2008. He’s currently free on a $2,500 signature bond while awaiting trial.
