Two Homes Evacuated After a Garage Fire Ignites on Cumberland Road

All four residents who were removed from the homes are safe, but investigators are still attempting to identify the cause of the blaze.

Police and fire investigators are attempting to determine the cause of a Tuesday evening garage fire that ignited in a home on Cumberland Road.

At roughly 6 p.m., the received multiple calls about a garage fire in a tri-level home at W167N9567 Cumberland Rd. When the first responder, Deputy Fire Chief Don Umhoefer, arrived minutes later, he reported that flames were visible from the exterior of the garage.

A mother and two children were removed from the home safely. An elderly resident in the home adjacent at W167N9580 Cumberland Rd., also evacuated the home because the blaze had crossed the lot line and was causing minor exterior damage. Fire Chief Jeffrey Hevey said winds gusting at 15 to 20 miles per hour were fanning flames toward the other home.
