Two Thieves Attempt to 'Recycle' Their Stolen Scrap Metal

Suspects took metal from a Falls recycling facility and tried to sell the items back to the same company.

Two men are facing charges after they allegedly stole scrap metal from a Menomonee Falls recycling business and then tried to resell the items to the same company.

Shane C. Amrhein 21, of Menomonee Falls, and Michael J. Granados, 22, of Germantown, were charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of theft and one count of attempted theft. If convicted, they face up to 13 months in prison and $15,000 in fines.

At 9:13 a.m. March 13, Menomonee Falls police were called to Industrial Recyclers Company for a theft in progress after an employee had spotted the two men trying to steal scrap metal from the grounds.

The men were recognized from the previous day where they had sold $166 worth of scrap metal that a manager recognized as being property of the company already.

Amrhein admitted to the theft saying he and Granados split the money from the sale.

Both men will make their initial appearance in court June 25.
