Sprinkler Head Bursts at the Radisson Hotel

There wasn't a fire, but Menomonee Falls fire fighters responded to the hotel last night after a sprinkler head was activated in a cooler.

Not everything went according to plan Thursday for the official ribbon cutting ceremony at the Radisson Hotel on Main Street.

The ceremony began at 4 p.m., but at approximately 9:45 p.m., the responded to the hotel after a sprinkler head broke in a walk-in cooler at the RBG Bar and Grill.

MFFD Deputy Chief Don Umhoefer said staff from the hotel placed the call after they noticed water running out from the cooler on the floor. Umhoefer said the water flowed into an in-floor drain and no damage was done to the hotel itself. However, the drenched contents of the cooler were disposed of.

An employee with the RBG Bar and Grill said the blown sprinkler head did not disrupt routine operations at the hotel Friday.

Umhoefer said it is still unknown what activated the sprinkler head. He said there certainly wasn’t a fire, so it may have been a mechanical failure or a defective sprinkler head. He said a contractor was headed to the hotel to replace the head on Friday, and determine a cause.
