Police Urge Residents To Use U.S. Post Office Mailboxes

Police received three reports of individuals stealing mail to obtain personal information. Residents are urged to use secure U.S. Post Office mailboxes.

The Menomonee Falls Police Department is urging citizens to take extra precautions to protect their identities. 

Police are asking citizens drive to the nearest U.S. Post Office secure mailbox to deposit mail that contains personal information in light of recent mailbox thefts. 

Between April 5 and April 16, the police department received reports of three thefts of personal mail from curbside mailboxes.

In each case, thieves took mail that contained personal checks and used the personal account information to make counterfeit checks. With each person's information, they used the victims’ bank account information, made gift card purchases at area businesses and Internet purchases.

The trio of crimes were reported when victims' banks notified them of fraudulent purchases.Police detectives are pursuing active leads in each case. 

Between April 28 and April 29, multiple residents reported items stolen from their open garages and vehicles.
